On Saturday, May 13, 2017, join Natasha Clery and JD “Hobbes” Hickey from Montreal as they bring their dynamic poetry and storytelling show, Blood and Bones to Ottawa for the first time! Guest poets include: Natalie Hanna and JustJamaal ThePoet! We will also be joined by the multi-skilled and wonderfully talented Jason Sonier!

This evening of spoken word will flow the blood and stack the bones. Let us entertain you with steam, with love, with strength and inspiration! Let us lift and intrigue you with clever tales! Come be drawn in at the intimate Origin Arts and Community Centre for an up close and personal evening of spoken literary art where page and stage collide!

NATASHA CLERY

Natasha Clery is a mother, daughter, sister and friend who was born and raised in Montreal, Quebec to exceptional St. Lucian parents. She is also Tashe, borne of the inspiration of God and led by a passionately romantic muse. She is writer, poet and speaker of all things connected to love.

Radio show host of the SOS (Sounds of Soul) on Montreal’s local CKUT FM radio and the upcoming Right Words to Say on Vibe City Radio, she uses her voice and her words to uplift, to inspire and whenever possible, to heal and soothe the soul.

Her first dream is to publish…her biggest dream is to remind the world to love.

 

JD “HOBBES” HICKEY

John David “Hobbes” Hickey has been telling fables, folktakes, and legends across Canada for over 20 years.

He has won several storytelling competitions (1st place in Ottawa’s own Once Upon a Slam in 2011 and 2012) and his band TaelStrum was named as one of the top spoken word acts in Best of Montreal 2012.

For five years, he hosted the Slamtastique Story Slam, Montreal’s only bilingual storytelling competition.

JUST JAMAAL THE POET

Jamaal Jackson Rogers; stage name JustJamaal ThePoet, is an award winning poet, arts educator, creative entrepreneur, and performance artist. He is the current English Poet Laureate of Ottawa.

In the last three years he has brought his work to audiences locally and internationally and his defining moments are when he makes intimate connections with his participants during his workshops and performance sets.

His topics range from emotional maturity to spirituality, from parenting to the human condition. He is a father of five and resides in Ottawa, Canada, using the capital as his launch pad to teach, mentor and advocate for the arts.

 

NATALIE HANNA

Natalie Hanna is a lawyer serving low income populations, a feminist, a poet and a small press publisher.

She runs battleaxe press (small press) in Ottawa, is the Administrative Director of the Sawdust Reading Series, and serves on the board of Arc Poetry Magazine.

Born and raised in Ottawa to Middle Eastern parents, her writing focuses on identity, relation, and social justice themes.
